Emphasis placed on expanding food-related entries about women

The Wiki-Editathon, which will take place at the British Library on July 11 from 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., is open to all and no previous experience is required.

The Oxford Symposium on Food & Cookery wants to help redress imbalances in content on Wikipedia, especially in food coverage relating to women.

To this end, the organization is hosting another all-day Wiki-Editathon at the British Library on Monday, July 11 from 9:45 a.m. Those interested in participating are asked to contact Carolin Young at [email protected] Registration closes on July 5.

No previous experience is required for the event, and participants at all levels are welcome. Simply bring a laptop, and training, support, and books will be provided. The free event includes coffee, lunch, and tea.

Polly Russell of the British Library and Stuart Prior of Wikimedia UK will be at the event to provide their professional guidance and input.

Previous Wikithons that have helped to create or improve include the following: Sophie Coe (historian of chocolate), Doreen Fernandez (scholar of Filipino cuisine), Catherine de’ Medici, Beatrice Vieyra (Anglo-Indian cookbook author), Judy Rodgers (chef), and Charlotte Knight (horticulturalist).
