Tina Fey & Amy Poehler Get Big Laughs at the Golden Globes: Their Best Moments
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler kicked off the 2014 Golden Globes with an unforgettable opener on Sunday.
Sparing no celebrity’s feelings, the comic duo were full of wisecracks for everyone from Matt Damon to Tom Hanks (or “Tam Hunks,” as Poehler affectionately dubbed the Captain Phillips star).
Rattling off the names of several A-list stars in the room, like Leonardo DiCaprio, Julia Roberts, Robert Redford and Meryl Streep among others, the duo noted 2013 was an incredible year for movies and television.
“No offense to the movies and nominees last year but this year is legit!” Fey, 43, said. “There are so many stars in the room tonight, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed.”
Poehler, 42, chimed in to make Matt Damon well aware of the hierarchy of the guest list.
“You’re basically a garbage person,” Poehler said, prodding Damon, who shared a laugh with his wife, Luciana, in the audience.
“Meryl Streep is here,” Fey said. “So brilliant in August: Osage County, proving that there are still great parts in Hollywood … for Meryl Streeps over 60.”
Best supporting actor nominee Bradley Cooper‘s perm in American Hustle inspired a joke all its own.
𠇋radley Cooper is here, star of American Hustle. Interesting trivia: The original title of that movie was Explosion at the Wig Factory,” Fey said with a laugh.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus – who is nominated for her roles in both the HBO series Veep and opposite the late James Gandolfini in Enough Said – caught some flack for her double nod.
“Interestingly, Julia has chosen to sit in the film section,” the hosts pointed out. “Hi, Julia. Hi, Julia. You know us from TV.”
In on the joke, Louis-Dreyfus deadpanned as she shielded her face with oversize sunglasses and puffed on an electronic cigarette as Reese Witherspoon attempted – and failed! – to take a photo with the Veep star.
The Laughs Continue
Even Miss Golden Globe Sosie Bacon wasn’t safe from the dynamic duo’s jabs. Actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick came on stage to introduce their daughter but were interrupted by Fey.
“In the name of gender equality this year, please welcome Mr. Golden Globe, my adult son from a previous relationship, Randy,” Fey announced as Poehler emerged in a suit and wig.
Poehler, sounding like an emo teenager, joked about Sosie Bacon’s name. “What are you, the Olympics?” she said, referencing the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Poeher also poked fun at actress Jacqueline Bisset, whose bizarre acceptance speech earlier in the night overshadowed her best supporting actress win for Dancing on the Edge.
“God, I hate being here,” Poehler joked. “Jacqueline Bisset is backstage bothering me.”
Another hilarious bit came as Poehler tried to determine which Hollywood bigwig was her illegitimate ther.” She first approached the hunky Idris Elba before successfully settling on Harvey Weinstein.
rry on,” Fey deadpanned as Poehler embraced the film executive.
But Poehler and Fey didn’t need elaborate bits to earn laughter. Some of their best jokes were tightly packed into their introductions. After continuing to banter with Louis-Dreyfus – who had moved back to the TV seating section to eat a large sandwich – Fey introduced Melissa McCarthy as “the cursing consultant on The Wolf of Wall Street.”
After Poehler accepted her best actress Golden Globe, Fey referenced last year’s squabble with singer Taylor Swift, who was offended at a joke the duo had made.
“I just want to say thank you again to my friend Amy Poehler, I love you and there’s a special place in hell for you,” Fey cracked, referencing a quote Swift invoked in a Vanity Fair article.
In her final, perhaps sharpest jab, Fey called Leonardo DiCaprio on stage, alluding to his romantic history: 𠇊nd now, – like a supermodel’s vagina – let’s all give a warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio.”
24 Stars You Totally Forgot Won a Golden Globe
You won't believe which celebs took home the hardware.
The Golden Globes have been honoring excellence in film and television since 1944, so it&rsquos no surprise that there are more than a few winners that will leave you scratching your head. That said, it&rsquos still quite a shock to see some of these names on the list of award recipients&mdashbe it because we don&rsquot think of them as top-notch artists, we completely forgot they ever played that role, or the work they were nominated for was particularly forgettable &mdash in a few cases, we just don&rsquot know who these people are at all.
Everyone has heard of the icon Twiggy, but she's more than just a legendary model. The Brit took home not one, but two Golden Globes for her performance in 1972's The Boyfriend.
Country musician Kris Kristofferson added winner of a Golden Globe to his resume when he took home the hardware for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy after his role in A Star Is Born.
It's impossible to forget Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat in 2007's Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan &mdash especially in that scene where. nevermind. But we didn't exactly recall his performance nabbing an award for Best Actor &ndash Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
The six-time nominee and three-time Golden Globe winner had already taken home a couple of trophies by the time she surprised her doubters and proved she could tackle drama, too, in 1983's Silkwood.
Madonna's controversial albums made her one of the most famous people in the music world, but her performance in 1997's Evita earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture, and the respect of the thespians everywhere.
Stallone put up a good fight for Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture when he took on the titular role in 1977's Rocky, but it wasn't until 2016 that he took home a Golden Globe for portraying Balboa, albeit in a supporting role in Creed.
Like Madonna, Cher, and Kristofferson before her, Lady Gaga proved her acting bonafides with a 2016 Golden Globe win for playing The Countess in 'American Horror Story: Hotel.'
When you think of William Shatner, you probably think of 'Star Trek' or his strange, spoken-word music career, but Shatner took home Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television in 2005 for his role in 'Boston Legal.'
The Pearl Jam frontman won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for his contribution to 2008's Into the Wild. Even more surprising, Vedder has been nominated thrice.
Curtis has received seven Golden Globe nominations and took home the trophy twice. While you probably recall her role in 1995's True Lies, it was her performance in 'Anything But Love' that netted her Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture.
Grammer is no stranger to the Golden Globes, but when the nine-time nominee won Best Performance By An Actor In A Television Series - Drama, fans were wondering not "Who's the boss?," but "What is Boss?" Despite the win, the Starz series lasted only two seasons.
According to the powers that be at the Golden Globes, Taylor-Johnson made the Best Performance By An Actor In Any Motion Picture in 2017. Many watching at home had to take their word for it, as Nocturnal Animals was not exactly a box office blockbuster.
While there's no denying her place among the stars now, Rodriguez's 2015 Golden Globes win for 'Jane the Virgin' surprised many, as she was up against industry legends like Edie Falco and Julie Louis-Dreyfus.
LeBlanc won America's heart as lovable lunkhead, Joey, on the popular series "Friends," but he didn't win a Golden Globe until 2012 for his role in "Episodes."
Dujardin won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy in 2012. The silent film in which he starred took home two more awards that night, but would you even remember The Artist if "silent film" wasn't part of the description?
Remember the film Tumbleweeds? Us either. But McTeer must &mdash after all, it won her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture.
When Gael Garcia Bernal took home the Golden Globe for 'Mozart in the Jungle,' it was the first time a lot of the audience had heard of the streaming Amazon Prime show.
Few can forget the Aussie craze that began with 1987's Crocodile Dundee, but how many remember it was enough to lock in a Golden Globes win for Mr. Dundee himself, Paul Hogan?
Douglas has been nominated for eight Golden Globes and won twice, but award for 2013's Behind the Candelabra celebrated a side of the actor we don't often get to see in his performances.
Perhaps better known for his involvement with comedy and conspiracy theories, Quaid won a Golden Globe in 1998 for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture for TV, applauded for his portrayal of President Johnson in LBJ: The Early Years.
Despite being a pop culture phenomenon, the young cast members on Glee were mostly ignored by the major award shows. The overall show won Golden Globes. as did Jane Lynch, co-creator Ryan Murphy, and a few guest stars, but Colfer was the only core glee club member to win.
Prior to the whole tiger blood and "winning" thing, Sheen's Two and a Half Men was a ratings powerhouse and he was at the center of it all. Strangely enough, his Golden Globe win wasn't from that. It was actually his stint on Spin City that scored him a trophy for Best Lead Actor in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical in 2002.
It's hard to believe that this legendary performer wasn't showered with awards during his career and yet his 1967 Golden Globe for Best Male TV Star on The Dean Martin Show was his biggest accolade. Who needs awards when you have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a group of friends as cool as The Rat Pack?
Bloom's CW show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend had a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim, but it didn't quite grab the viewership it deserved. She took home a Golden Globe in 2016 for her work on the show, which ran for four seasons before ending in 2019.

Now that the Golden Globes are all wrapped up and we’re happy, we can go over the best bits of the ceremony with the power of GIFs &mdash many, many GIFs.
It’s over, and we are sad now. The 2014 Golden Globes are all done, and they’ve left us with a wide range of emotions, which we shall discuss shortly.
First, hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made us happy. We applaud them! Their jokes were timely, poked fun at the right people for the right reasons, and their improv skills came in handy for the uncomfortable lulls during the ceremony.
Second, the selection of winners made us quite jubilant. The fact that 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Matthew McConaughey, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston and Amy Poehler all walked away with a Golden Globe makes us want to do this:
Third, the fact that the Golden Globes serves alcohol made some acceptance speeches and onstage presences very awkward. Like watching your Uncle Phil climb his way to the stage during your grade 3 ballet recital&hellip

Golden Globes 2014: What they ate at the Globes, after parties
Hollywood’s elite gathered Sunday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. Sure, everyone’s talking about who wore what and who made out with whom . Amy Poehler and Bono! But we’re really interested in what all the stars munched on during and after the show.
It may be hard to believe celebrities dressed in skin-tight gowns and tuxedos eat while the cameras are rolling, but they do. At the Globes, they are served a full three-course meal.
Beverly Hills Hilton executive chef Suki Sugiura and pastry chef Thomas Henzi prepared the food. Courses included an appetizer plate with grilled vegetables, hummus, pita bread, feta cheese and tabbouleh, a braised short rib with harissa crust, smoked trout, polenta and corn, and for dessert, mango yogurt mousse. Everyone sipped on Moët & Chandon bubbly.
And Julia Louis-Dreyfus managed to get her hands on a hot dog and scarf it down on camera.
At the Weinstein and Netflix after party, the stars munched on food provided by a variety of SBE restaurants including Cleo, Katsuya and the Bazaar.
Bites included Jose Andres’ American caviar cones, bagel and lox cones, jicama guacamole, modern olives and market ceviche Katsuya’s wasabi hand rolls, salmon Ikura hand rolls, hamachi citrus spoons, tuna sesame chips, albacore onion spoons, Nigiri and baked crab rolls Cleo’s baba ganoush, hummus, lebaneh, dolmades, fried cauliflower with Vadouvan and chicken kebabs and SBE catering mac and cheese lollipops, crostini with caramelized onion and seared filet mignon and manchego-stuffed dates wrapped in apple smoked bacon.
And for dessert, Sheila G. of Brownie Brittle prepared a cart full of sweet treats with blondie truffles, peanut butter petit fours, double nut bars with Brownie Brittle crust and praline cheesecake with Brownie Brittle crust.
Hollywood celebrates at 2014 Golden Globes
Celebrities are making their way down the red carpet for Sunday’s Golden Globes, shining in their beautiful finery.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Celebrities are making their way down the red carpet for Sunday’s Golden Globes, shining in their beautiful finery.
Michelle Dockery, Tatiana Maslany and Kevin Spacey are among the stars who have already arrived for the awards at Beverly Hilton. Their timing was right, too: Earlier this afternoon, a sprinkler malfunction dampened the red carpet, but officials cleaned it up and “the situation was quickly resolved,” according to a press release.
As the countdown continues toward the awards, any number of questions are on Hollywood’s collective mind.
Will best drama go to Years a Slave” or “Gravity”? Will 77-year-old Robert Redford pick up a Globe for best actor in a drama — his first Globe since winning new star of the year for 1965’s “Inside Daisy Clover”? Will Steve McQueen ( Years”) or Alfonso Cuaron (“Gravity” ) or David O. Russell (“American Hustle”) pick up the best director Globe? Will someone ruin their shoe
Ah, forget it. The main question anyone wants to know is: How will Tina and Amy do?
That would be Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the hosts of this year’s Hollywood Foreign Press Association shindig, who set a high bar for hosting after their job at last year’s Golden Globes.
Fey and Poehler kept the audience — both the one inside the Beverly Hilton and the worldwide television audience — laughing with their jabs at nominees, previous host Ricky Gervais (who’d been criticized as mean-spirited) and the general loosey-goosey (alcoholic) spirit of the Globes, which prominently feature an open bar.
“Meryl Streep is not here tonight,” said Poehler at one point. “She has the flu — and I hear she’s amazing in it.”
Streep will probably be there tonight: She’s nominated for best actress in a comedy or musical for her performance in “August: Osage County,” which is her 28th nomination — a Globe record by far. (She’s won eight times, also a record.)
But the thing about the Globes is most of Hollywood tends to show up, drawn by the booze, the glamour, the publicity and the idea that a victory here may set the recipient on the road to that most coveted of Hollywood prizes, the Oscar.
As Goldderby.com awards expert Tom O’Neil observes, “The Golden Globe has often acted as a crystal ball revealing who’ll sang Academy gold next and maybe even helping them to get it.”
Funny how that works, considering that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association consists of about 100 entertainment journalists who sometimes have funny tastes. They were widely mocked after giving an award to Pia Zadora for new star of the year in the early s against competition that included Elizabeth McGovern and Kathleen Turner. (A little schmoozing by Zadora’s producer husband, Meshulam Riklis, was said to have gone a long way.)
But in the ensuing years, the Globes have gotten to be a handy set of tea leaves, designating 17 of the past 20 best actor Oscar winners, for example. (It helps that the Globes give awards for dramas and comedy/musicals.)
The Globes also give out awards for television, though they tend to get less attention than the movie prizes. “Breaking Bad” and “House of Cards” are up for television drama “Big Bang Theory,” “Girls” and the new “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” are up for television comedy.
Still, all the awards will likely be forgotten by Tuesday (except for those trying to handicap the Oscars). Fey and Poehler, on the other hand, may dominate water-cooler chatter for days.
Matt Damon Is the Belle of the 2014 Golden Globes
From the top of the show, Tina Fey sealed Damon’s fate as the unofficial mascot when she included him in the opening monologue. Noting the room’s overflow of A-list talent, Fey, 43, made him a friendly punchline when she and co-host Amy Poehler pointed out his status in the room full of iconic talent, which included Meryl Streep, Robert Redford and more.
“No offense to the movies and nominees last year but this year is legit!” she said. “There are so many stars in the room tonight, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed.”
Poehler, 42, chimed in, comparing Damon to the surrounding talent: “You’re basically a garbage person.”
Cameras panned to Damon, who with his wife Luciana in the audience, laughing at Fey and Poehler.
Next, Damon, took the stage to introduce a trailer for Captain Phillips, referring to himself as 𠇊 garbage person”, pointing out he𠆝 forgotten his glasses while trying to read the teleprompter.
But it didn’t end there for Damon’s role as a running joke.
While presenting the Globe for best actor in a TV movie (in which Damon was nominated for his role in Behind the Candelabra), Jimmy Fallon and Melissa McCarthy name dropped the actor in a far-fetched bit. Before announcing the winner, Fallon set the scene, explaining that after having suffered a head injury, McCarthy believes she’s Damon.
𠇊re we here to present the award for best actor in a miniseries or not? Because there are other places I𠆝 like to be, like at home with my beautiful wife, Mrs. Matt Damon!” McCarthy interjected after introducing the nominees.
And although he lost to his costar Michael Douglas, Damon still managed to get a touching shoutout.
“Matt Damon. The bravest, talented actor I’ve ever worked with and the only reason you’re not here is because I had more sequins,” Douglas, 69, explained.
